In 2012, REI’s Brand Lab team was asked to create a viral infographic for Halloween. I came up with the idea for Zombie Survival Gear and wrote the copy. After it published, this went on to become one of REI’s most shared pieces of digital content for several years.
Here’s an example of something slightly more technical. A few years back, activity trackers had become very popular products at REI. That said, many of the people who were buying them had never used one before. REI’s social media team asked me to create a blog article that would help new users get started with their trackers. I researched the product category and wrote this article for the Co-op Journal. I also collaborated with the designer on the photo shoot.
This next one is an old favorite of mine. As the Senior Editor for REI’s websites, I was asked to create an online payoff for the 2003 spring Summer Escape campaign. I developed an REI.com homepage lead feature with my team and came up with the idea for Escape Essentials. I really enjoyed the opportunity to choose products and then heavily editorialize the copy. Just click the arrows on the sides to take a spin through the feature.
